Bone Grafting

What is bone grafting?

Bone grafting is a form of tissue engineering where we use varied techniques to grow more bone where there is not enough left after tooth loss.

Why is bone grafting sometimes necessary?

Most often, bone grafting is necessary when teeth are missing for a long period of time and the jaw bone has lost its volume and the patient would like to have implants placed.

It is natural for the bone to shrink in all dimensions when teeth are lost as there is no reason for it to be there. When we are planning for implants to be placed in strategic positions and bone is lacking proper volume for the adequate implant size, we recommend bone grafting.

Is it painful?

No, the procedure itself does not hurt as the bone is numbed.
